The final fixture in this season's league cross-country at the changed venue of Oxshott Common saw Collingwood finish in 6th on the day and 6th overall. The team was missing a couple of the usual runners and but for this might have ended up a little higher. Still 6th place was far better than any of us would have envisaged at the start of the season, when the talk was more of a relegation fight. | |||

Top finishers/Other Divisions
Hosted by Striders of Croydon on our almost home ground of Lloyd Park. This time round the Division 2 and 3 fixtures were combined, leading to a much larger field and some congestion going up the first hill. Andy had a good run, finishing in 4th. Making a welcome return to the country was Paul Stevens, who had an inglorious start by turning his ankle on the first hill and having to stop for a minute to recover. He did manage to work his way successfully back through the field though. Dan was a little further behind Andy than usual - perhaps a bit too much Christmas spirit the night before. Martin managed to finish in front of Keith on this one, and Ben had a great run, beating Rob for the first time. Not only did Paul Stevens run today, but he had also recruited 2 new members, and one of them, Martin Dilworth, was our 10th scorer (55th) in his first excursion on the country. The team position was even better than we could have dreamed, finishing in 2nd place on 309 points, only 13 points behind 1st. This brings our league position up to 3rd with one remaining fixture. |

Top finishers/Other Divisions A familiar course to us around the inside of the racecourse, but in the reverse direction to what we've run previously and possibly a little less rutted. Another healthy turn-out from the members and a good performance from all. Adam gained a few scalps today, biding his time until the last half mile and passing 3 of his clubmates on the run-in, including father Jess in the last few metres. |

Top finishers/Other Divisions The course was an interesting, undulating one, with a small lap followed by 2 large laps. It was mostly dry but with a few muddy patches that were easy to avoid if you'd chosen trainers rather than spikes or off-road shoes. As seems traditional with the first fixture of the season, we had warm and sunny weather. Andy managed 5th place, followed home by Dan in 17th, in his debut race for the club. He'd made a cautious start, following Keith to pace himself for the first mile or two and then moved past for a good finishing position. Keith had opened his usual gap at the start from Martin, but started to come back after a couple of miles, and Martin caught and passed him on the final climb to the finish. Jess still continues his run of good form, and Terry Fogarty has come on in leaps and bounds since he joined, with an excellent mid-table finish for him. Terry Bridger's not very satisfied with his form of late, and with being beaten by Paul today. A very good turn-out for the first fixture of the season, and the team was very upbeat after the finish, feeling that we'd done well in this more competitive division. This turned out to be the case, as we finished in 6th, about 30 points behind 4th and 5th who were separated by only 1 point. |

The organisers insist that the course was accurate to within one foot, but the times suggest that it was a trifle long (and who wants a long trifle). Also running in the one mile family race was Jade Ivers, but no time is available for her. |

Collingwood's first visit to this cross-country event in Lloyd Park. The race was 3 legs of 2.5 miles, more or less following the usual cross-country course. In the case of the winners it was less rather than more as their lead runner missed out a chunk of the first leg when he misread some of the markers. The organisers held back their second runner to compensate. A total of 18 teams, men and women took part. |

Results index Delays on the drive up to Stowe meant that the team only arrived in the nick of time. Paul Brooke had already collected our numbers from registration, but we never managed to meet up with him and ended up running the event with our race numbers written on the back of our hands. Paul himself thought we'd not turned up and went home without running. Andy was very happy with his finishing position, being his highest ever in the Nationals, and ditto for Martin. Full results |

Results index A new venue for Collingwood for the final event of this season's league. This one was hosted by Elmbridge RR and Runnymede Runners. The course was a mixture of stony tracks and tree roots and one rather large hill. Unfortunately we were short of a full team again, but with promotion now out of reach the race in some ways was a bit of a non-event. Andy was trying to make it 4 wins out of 4, but was defeated by 4 seconds by Steve Bishop of Holland Sports, and had to make do with the consolation of being overall champion! Roger was obviously back to good form after an achilles injury and looks to be confirmed as 2nd or 3rd in the Vets category. Rob had the upper hand over Martin this time, turning the tables after their last meeting. |

A return to Parliament Hill for 3 laps of the course we all know and love (especially Doug). The team was a little depleted on this occasion, especially missing Andy who had bashed his knee whilst climbing out of a skip (don't ask). The course was pretty muddy but not as bad as on some recent visits - Mud Factor 6. We all ran round on impulse power, which is more than can be said for the trains on the way home. A PW for Thameslink. Full results |

Our second visit to Tilgate, Crawley for 3 laps of a waterlogged and boggy course. Unfortunately we were one short of a team, but we all had a good run out anyway. Results index A slightly changed course at Reigate Priory, missing out the toughest climb. Andy was successful in his bid for a hat-trick but it was a close finish with only 4 seconds covering the first 3. Roger had an excellent run, finishing in his highest ever position. Despite good grouping in the middle of the team we still only managed a 4th place, leaving us still in 3rd place in the league and a mountain to climb for promotion. |
