The last in the 3 race Lara Surrey Classic Series and there were 3 PBs on this cold and frosty morning (although some did question whether the course was a little short). Terry Fogarty had an early Christmas present, finishing the series in 3rd place in the M50 category. 368 finishers.

Such is the life of a marathon globetrotter - one week Monaco, the next Luton. This was Rob's fastest time for a couple of years, and probably Terry's slowest. Still, he had only intended to do a lap or two rather than finish it. Rob was 2nd in his age group. Also there was Rob's mate Carl, who finished 2nd in his age group.

Even though it was the day after the South of Thames XC, some members were keen to run today. Just a sniff of a free t-shirt and they were there. Despite yesterday's exertions from Dan and Terry they each managed a pb, and a fully rested Adam not only bettered his pb, but also joined the sub-40 club. Jess also ran well, going under 40 for the first time in many moons.

Terry ventured to the home of the marathon for his 3rd try at the distance, but found conditions less than friendly. Not hot and sticky, but cold and wet with flooding on the roads. Nevertheless, he managed to trim another couple of minutes from his pb, and finished 27th of 119 in his age group. |

The Collingwood contingent was split between 2 races today, with the bulk doing this one on the paths and roads around Nonsuch Park, and the balance at the Croydon 10k. However, the weather didn't distinguish between the races. Both were equally favoured with heavy rain. Those at Nonsuch looked like they'd just done a cross-country rather than a road race. Martin was hoping for a pb today on the course where his last one was set, but missed out by 4 seconds. Jess continues his run of good form, and was pleased to duck under 40 minutes for the first time since turning 40. Terry Fogarty goes from strength to strength, this time breaking his pb by over 2 minutes even without the benefit of windscreen wipers on his glasses. Terry Bridger managed to turn the tables on Paul after his defeat last week at the cross-country. Chris, struggling with an achilles injury, put in one of his less memorable times. 246 finishers. |

With Stuart Major stretching away in front, Andy and Eric Thomas of SLH settled for 2nd and ran together, recording the same finishing time, although Andy received the verdict for 2nd place. Andy obviously wasn't pushing too hard as he was about 4 mins slower than last year. Keith zoomed off to his usual fast start, opening up about 150/200m in the first mile or 2 from Martin. Second place for the club would give him 39pts to win the Club Champs, or 3rd place 38pts to tie. Rob and Martin seesawed early on and then ran together till about 4 miles, when Keith was coming back to them and Martin pushed on to close the gap. On the long drag on the 2nd lap Keith was only about 50m ahead, but opened the gap again on the big hill with 3 miles to go, and maintained it. Rob had started to drop back and then had a short stop for cramp on one of the steep descents. Paul surprised himself with a good time compared to recent races, and Anne benefited from a bit of unwitting pacemaking by Chris, who himself ran several minutes quicker than last year. Keith wins the club champs (unofficial result) by 1pt. Collingwood won the team prize, pipping SLH by 2pts. The prize of 12 bottles of wine were duly shared around the members who had remained for the presentation. |

A multi-terrain race in Lloyd Park and Addington Hills, Croydon. Rain overnight had made conditions underfoot a little treacherous in places for those without off-road shoes. Some chose spikes, but that must have been a bit hard on the feet on the gravelly paths of Addington Hills. Martin unusually made a faster start than Rob, but he reversed the positions after a couple of miles and opened up a gap that he held to the finish. Terry, in his first off-road excursion, had a seesaw battle with Ben, but ended up the victor despite a tumble on one of the steep down-slopes in Addington Hills. Ben though, was happy to have run considerably quicker than last year. Malcolm found some of the hills a bit tough, in what for him is a little over-distance. A good Friday night out may also have played its part. |

A return visit for Collingwood to the multi-terrain course of Henfield near Brighton. The course includes farm fields, a disused railway, and a path alongside the river with about 9 stiles to cross. The weather was warm and humid, but overcast, and eventually turned into thunderstorms, with anyone finishing over 1:30 having some heavy rain to cool them down. Some of the paths round the fields started to get a bit muddy, having been bone dry earlier. Last year's winner, Andy Flett was missing, taking a precautionary rest after falling off his bike and taking a knock on the knee. Martin was around half a minute slower than last year. It took a couple of miles for him to catch the fast-starting Jess. He had one slightly worrying moment, when a herd of bullocks was blocking the path alongside the river. He gave them a wide berth, but the 2 guys a little distance in front ran very close and nearly started a stampede. Today was Terry's first off-road experience and he found the footing a bit uncomfortable in places, although he managed to keep up a consistent pace throughout. Just wait till the cross-country season starts! Another quick one for Jess, but Adam was possibly suffering the after-effects of last weeks race on the IOW. Paul managed to nip past Chris at mile 12 but Chris was happy, having run around 10 mins quicker than last year. Tom reported that it wasn't only the paths that got slippy in the rain - so did the cow pats. |

Just the one Collingwood competitor in this one, Adam who decided to augment his holiday with a pb. It sounds like quite a scenic route, starting in Sandown, going up through Brading to Bembridge and back again. Adam found there are very few flat roads on this island, but despite this and the very warm conditions managed a pb by about 5 minutes. |

8 Collies turned out on this lovely half marathon course at Burnham near Slough, undulating through quiet, traffic-free, leafy lanes. Heavy rain this morning caused some flooding and there were a number of big puddles to splash through. The weather was warm with a few light showers during the race which were quite refreshing. The course was slightly changed from previously, taking an easier route to avoid the big hill. Andy was in 14th at mile 1 and about 30s behind the leader, but worked his way through to challenge for 3rd coming in to the finishing field. He took the place some 10m from the line, and the pair of them had battled so hard at the finish that they ended up only about 6s behind 2nd place. Martin's pb by 5 seconds didn't seem likely until seeing the finish clock after the final turn, having done quite a bit of mileage in the past few weeks in marathon preparation. Terry (The Prof) continues his improvement in leaps and bounds - a pb by 6 and a half minutes in his 2nd half marathon. Jess also ran a good time despite struggling with a thigh injury, and Chris was happy to have run some 8 mins quicker than last year. Sue also managed a pb by around a minute in her 2nd half. |

Our first team took top spot and a bottle of rather nice Belgian beer each for the privilege. Andy, having run 1st leg in the winning team then took on the 3rd leg in the 2nd team (only 4 seconds slower than his first run!), to bring them home in 5th place. Ben had an excellent run in the 3rd team hastily reorganised on the fly. He was our 3rd fastest on the night, and the team finished in 8th. |

Results 10 Collingwood runners turned out for this Surrey Championship and Surrey Road League race. Top of the pile as usual was Andy, who was closing down on the 3 runners ahead of him on the run in to the finish. Keith was slightly down on his usual sort of time, but given the very warm conditions and the fact that he was testing out an injury after having to withdraw from the Tour of Epsom, didn't run too badly. Martin ran a course best by a minute and a half, but a little outside his pb. Jess is edging closer towards 40 minutes again on his return to form, whilst son Adam is still struggling a little with a knee injury. Terry started like a cheetah on nandrolone in his eagerness to crack his pb once again, with Martin and Jess only managing to catch him at the first mile mark. It must be the new go-faster glasses. Collingwood were 8th team (3 to score). |

Full Results A one lap, scenic and undulating course for what was a Surrey Road League and Surrey Championship race. Keith was hoping to go under 60 minutes, but the hillier second half put paid to that, although he still managed a pb. Martin also ran a pb beating his one and only previous 10 mile time at Tadworth some years ago. Chris found himself behind Colin in the first 3 miles, but battled past him and opened a comfortable gap. Keith had been hoping for something approaching 1:20, and Martin was looking for a time in the 1:27s, but both were well outside their targets. Adam did manage a pb, but his only previous half was at Hastings where he started 2 minutes later than everyone else. Congratulations nevertheless. The great news for the club is that we collected 2nd place in the Surrey Championships - that's 2 years running. |

A healthy Collingwood turn-out for the local Sutton race. Andy was a little down on his usual time, but Keith was pleased with his time. Also to be seen were new member Terry Fogarty, and recent member Sue. |

Results Paul in his debut marathon was hoping to go under 3, and at halfway looked to be on schedule for around 2:50, but suffered in the last 4 miles. Bernard had a good run with a time a few minutes faster than last year. Terry was a little outside his target of 3:45 after interrupted training in the past few months. Congratulations to Sue in her first marathon on completing the course and not too far behind Tom either, who found his stomach was in violent disagreement with the isotonic drinks. |

A cold and windy day for this popular half marathon. Martin managed to beat last year's time by almost a minute and a pb by around 25 seconds. Adam, in his first half marathon had the handicap of arriving late for the start and going off 2 minutes behind everyone else. Tom and Doug had quite a battle for about 9 miles until Tom gained the ascendancy. Colin described his race as "terrible". Sounds familiar Colin. |
